Arsenal transfers: ‘Mathieu Debuchy is a real fighter’
Arsenal tranfers: Alan Smith backs the Gunners' pursuit of Newcastle United right-back Mathieu Debuchy

Alan Smith has backed Arsenal’s pursuit of Mathieu Debuchy as Bacary Sagna’s replacement at right-back.
The Gunners are said to be close to snapping up the France international from Newcastle United in a £10m deal following Sagna’s departure to Manchester City on a free transfer earlier this summer.
He’s a fighter, a real competitor – a bit like Sagna on that front

And former striker Smith feels that the 28-year-old will be an adequate replacement for Sagna at Emirates Stadium.
“Debuchy is in for France ahead of Bacary Sagna at the moment,” Smith told Sky Sports.
“He probably didn’t enjoy a classic season for Newcastle – certainly not a flawless season – and got himself in to a bit of a tangle at times.
“But he’s a fighter, a real competitor – a bit like Sagna on that front and he’s experienced as well and that’s what you need.”
Debuchy scored one goal and made three assists in 29 Premier League appearances for Newcastle United last season.
