Mathieu Debuchy has revealed his pride at completing his transfer to Arsenal from Newcastle United for an undisclosed fee.
The 28-year-old right-back moves to The Emirates after having helped France reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Brazil.
Debuchy, who has signed a long-term contact with the north London club, made 46 times during an 18-month spell at St James’ Park.
“I’m very proud to be joining a great club like Arsenal and to wear its colours, it’s one of the biggest clubs in the whole world,” said Debuchy.
“I’m looking forward to working with Arsene Wenger and to helping the team build on last season’s FA Cup success.
“Playing again in the Champions League is a big excitement for me and I will do my best to help Arsenal compete for trophies.”
Arsenal said Debuchy will join up with his new team-mates “soon” for pre-season training and that he is expected to make his debut at the Emirates Cup in the first weekend of August.
A Newcastle United statement added: “The club wishes to place on record its thanks to Mathieu for his efforts during his time at Newcastle. He leaves with all our best wishes for his future at Arsenal.”
Debuchy scored one goal and made three assists in 29 Premier League appearances for Newcastle United last season.
