Abou Diaby is confident that he can stay “injury-free” as the Arsenal midfielder continues his return from his latest fitness setback.

The France international, 28, racked up a disappointing 16 minutes of Premier League action last term after suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage.

I am really confident I will be able to stay injury-free. I have worked hard for over a year

Abou Diaby

Diaby has endured an injury-hit few seasons at The Emirates, limiting the highly-rated French midfielder to 16 Premier League appearances in the past three top-flight campaigns.

But the Gunners man, who featured against New York Red Bulls at the weekend, is optimistic that he can finally put his injury nightmare behind him.

“I am still young and now that I have an opportunity to play again I want to take it. I try to be positive all the time and that has helped me to come back,” Diaby is quoted as saying.

“It is great just to be playing again. Now I just hope I can keep like this and continue.

“My knee is feeling good. I have been working hard on my fitness and strength.

“I am really confident I will be able to stay injury-free. I have worked hard for over a year.”
