Arsenal’s Alexis Sánchez signing a statement of intent, says Ian Holloway
Arsenal transfers: Ian Holloway says the Gunners are genuine title contenders with Alexis Sánchez in their ranks
Ian Holloways says Arsenal’s Alexis Sánchez swoop is a real statement of intent ahead of the new Premier League season.
The 25-year-old penned a long-term contract with the Gunners after the north London side struck a reported £35 deal with Barcelona to sign the forward.
Spending £30million on a stellar name like Sánchez is a real statement of intent
Sánchez, who helped Chile reach the World Cup quarter-finals, scored 19 goals and made 10 assists in 34 La Liga appearances, coming off the bench seven times.
And Holloway feels Arsenal are genuine Premier League title contenders with the former Udinese forward in their ranks.
“Arsenal are now genuine Premier League title contenders,” Holloway wrote in his Daily Mirror column.
“The signing of Alexis Sánchez has transformed the Gunners from a team that will always be capable of finishing in the top four into one that can land the biggest prize.
“Arsenal built a sustained title challenge last season – until Olivier Giroud hit the wall. Winning the FA Cup in May was a significant step.
“But spending £30million on a stellar name like Sanchez is a real statement of intent. I can’t wait to see him make the most of the creativity already in place at the Emirates.”
