Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil rallies Germany after last-16 triumph
Arsenal's club-record signing Mesut Özil issues a rallying cry after Germany beat Algeria to reach World Cup last eight
Mesut Ozil has issued a rallying cry after Germany set up a World Cup quarter-final clash against France thanks to a 2-1 extra-time victory over Algeria on Monday night.
Joachim Low’s highly-fancied side struggled against the top-ranked African side at the major tournament, with Germany unable to make the breakthrough in normal time.
However, Chelsea midfielder Andre Schurrle opened the scoring in the 91st minute before Arsenal’s club-record signing doubled Germany’s lead in the 119th minute.
Algeria did net a late strike to ensure a nervy final few seconds but Low’s men hung on to set up a mouth-watering clash with les Bleus on Saturday night.
And Ozil, who moved to Arsenal in a £42.5m deal from Real Madrid last summer, took to his Facebook to revel in Germany’s last-16 triumph.
