Jack Wilshere is ready to prove his critics wrong and enjoy a great season for Arsenal, according to Arsene Wenger.

The England international’s form has been under the spotlight in recent months after Paul Scholes claimed that the midfielder had not developed significantly as a player since making his debut in 2008.

Jack is a great player – he has a football brain and he’s ambitious

Wilshere scored three goals and made four assists in 24 Premier League games for Arsenal last season.

And Gunners boss Wenger feels that the 22-year-old is primed to raise his game next term.

“He’s at an age where yo want him to move forward,” said Wenger.

“He has the potential. I believe for him, the most important [thing] now is to have a good preparation and focus on getting really fit.

“Jack is a great player – he has a football brain and he’s ambitious. I’m sure that [if] he’s injury free, he will have a great season.”
