Josep Maria Bartomeu insists that Barcelona have not paid £75m to sign Luis Suarez from Liverpool.

Sources close to the Premier League club claim that the Catalan side have shelled out around €94m for the Uruguay international, who is set to sign a five-year deal at Camp Nou this week.

It is closer to what sources in Barcelona say. It is not as high as €85m

However, reports in Spain have suggested that the total fee is closer to €81m (£64.4m) – and Barcelona president Bartomeu says that figure is nearer to the actual price.

“It’s closer to the figures quoted by Barcelona sources. It’s less than €85m,” said Bartomeu.

“I’m not going to reveal how much. We will do on the day the player is presented. He’s signed a five-year deal.”

The Barcelona chief added: “We’re thrilled to have signed a player of his calibre.”

PFA player of the year Suarez scored 31 goals in 33 Premier League appearances last season as the Reds finished two points behind champions Manchester City.
