Steven Gerrard has paid tribute to Luis Suarez following confirmation of the Liverpool striker’s transfer to Barcelona.

The news of Suarez’s exit was announced on Friday afternoon following weeks of speculation about the striker’s future, with the 27-year-old set to travel to Spain next week to undergo a medical and complete his move.

And Liverpool captain took to his Instagram page to thank the Uruguay international for his contribution to the Anfield club.

Gerrard wrote: “On an emotional day for me would just like to say what a pleasure it has been playing with an amazing talent such as Luis.

“I would like to thank him for his outstanding contribution on the pitch during his time @liverpoolfc and to wish him and his family all the best on his new adventure in Spain. #lfclegend”

Suárez, who joined Liverpool from Ajax in January 2011, scored 31 league goals last season and won the PFA player of the year award.
