England v India: Jos Buttler called up as cover for Matt Prior

England v India: Joss Buttler is called into Alastair Cook's squad to provide cover for injury doubt Matt Prior

Jos Buttler has been included in England’s squad to provide cover for Matt Prior ahead of the first Test against India.

The experienced wicket-keeper complained of “mild tightness” in his right thigh during training on Monday ahead of the Trent Bridge opener on Wednesday.

32-year-old Prior, who was recalled to the squad for the Sri Lanka series after being dropped following the Ashes whitewash, is set to be assessed ahead of the opening Test.

Buttler, 23, scored his first ODI century against Sri Lanka at Lord’s in May, and the Lancashire wicket-keeper will be ready to step into fold should Prior be unfit to feature.

“Jos Buttler has been called into the England squad as cover for Matt Prior who experienced some mild tightness in his right thigh during training yesterday,” an ECB statement read.

“Prior will continue to be assessed during the training session before a decision is made about his fitness for the first Investec Test beginning tomorrow at Trent Bridge.”
