Liverpool’s Jose Enrique ‘feeling great’ after return from knee injury
Liverpool defender Jose Enrique says he is "feeling great" after returning to training from a long-term knee injury
Jose Enrique says he is feeling great after returning to first-team training at Liverpool.
The Spanish left-back hasn’t featured for the Reds since a 4-0 victory over Fulham on 9 November after succumbing to a long-term knee injury.
They told me little by little, I have to be careful, because I don’t want a setback
Enrique, 28, struggled to overcome the problem and was sent to a specialist in the United States in a bid to speed up the defender’s rehabilitation.
And the former Newcastle United man is thrilled to be training with his Liverpool team-mate ahead of the new season.
“I’ve been here for a week already,” Enrique told Liverpool’s website.
“I’ve been here since last week and I’m really happy – I’ve been waiting for this moment for so long. I’m feeling great.
“I’m really happy to try to be playing games again. I’ve been working in the summer and I’ve been here for the last week. I’ve been working quite a lot in fitness terms.
“You can work on your own, but when you work with other people it’s different. They told me little by little, I have to be careful, because I don’t want a setback.
“I’ve been working with the physios; I only stopped for a week but for the rest of the holidays, I have been working because I have to be completely fit for this season.”
