Robbie Fowler has backed Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers’s pursuit of proven Premier League stars.

The Reds have already signed Southampton duo Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana in the summer transfer window, whilst snapping up Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can on Thursday.

He is doing it the right way in getting in players who are established in the Premier League

The Saints have rejected a £20m bid for Croatia centre-half Dejan Lovren from the Reds last week as Rodgers attempts to address his leaky defence ahead of the new season.

And Liverpool legend Fowler, who scored 128 Premier League goals during his Reds career, believes Rodgers is right to sign Premier League players.

“You know what you are getting with these players. They have played in the Premier League,” Fowler told TalkSport.

“Liverpool’s weakness last season was the depth of the squad. Now Brendan is putting together a good squad.

“There is the league, the cups, the Champions League, so Liverpool need a much bigger squad.

“He is doing it the right way in getting in players who are established in the Premier League.”
