Liverpool transfers: Brendan Rodgers wants the ‘best quality’ players
Liverpool transfers: Brendan Rodgers says Reds are "working very hard" to bring in top players this summer
Brendan Rodgers says Liverpool are “working very hard” to bring in top players this summer following the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona.
The Reds confirmed the signing of Lazar Markovic from Benfica on Tuesday following the arrivals of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Emre Can.
And the Northern Irishman says the Merseyside outfit are determined to continue strengthening their squad with top-quality talent.
“We want to improve and continually improve,” said Rodgers.
“We’re working very hard behind the scenes, as we always do, in terms of getting the best quality players into the club.”
This season we have the belief to go along with the quality
Barcelona officially confirmed the signing of PFA player of the year Suárez on Wednesday after a fee, believed in the region of £75m, was agreed last week.
However, Rodgers insists that Liverpool have already moved on from the Uruguay international’s departure.
“The sale of Suarez does not lessen our ambition,” said Rodgers, whose side finished second last season. “We thank Luis for his contribution here but we move on, looking for the right players.
“We’ll go and do our best. Our best last year nearly won us the title.
“This year, we know it’s going to be extremely competitive. Every team will strengthen and we’ll be exactly the same. But the beauty for us is that we’re a young group and we’re bringing in young players that are hungry.
“We will progress again from last season. It’s going to be a really exciting season. I’ve seen development in the players already in the short period of time that we’ve been back.
“This season we have the belief to go along with the quality.”
