Liverpool transfers: Dejan Lovren can’t wait to play ‘amazing football’

Liverpool transfers: Dejan Lovren admits playing at Anfield sparked his desire to play for the Reds after sealing £20m move

Dejan Lovren says he is thrilled to complete his Liverpool move after craving a Reds switch since Southampton’s victory at Anfield last season.

The Croatia international has penned a long-term deal with Liverpool after the Premier League runners-up agreed a £20m deal with Southampton for the centre-half.

Liverpool play amazing football so I can’t wait to join up with the team. It is a privilege to be here

Lovren, who scored the Saints’s winner in a 1-0 victory at Anfield last September, scored two goals and made one assist in 31 Premier League appearances following his move to St Mary’s last summer.

And the former Lyon defender is excited to be part of Liverpool’s current transformation after becoming Brendan Rodgers’s fifth summer signing.

“Liverpool have already bought five players, so you can see the club has big ambitions to carry on and not stop here. Of course, I want to be part of the club’s ambitions,” Lovren told Liverpool’s website.

The Croatian added: “I like his [Rodgers’s] style, it’s amazing and quite similar to Southampton. Their games last year were great, particularly the win at St Mary’s.

“Liverpool play amazing football so I can’t wait to join up with the team. It is a privilege to be here.”

On Southampton’s win at Anfield last season, Lovren added: “I’m most looking forward to Anfield, of course. I played there last season in front of the crowd singing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

“That is something very special for every player, every sportsman and every fan. I can’t wait to get started.”

The 25-year-old continued: “It was an amazing moment for me because before and after the game I sensed the feeling and atmosphere around the stadium. I will never forget the victory we achieved and especially getting the goal. After the game, I said to myself: ‘One day I hope I’ll be able to play here for Liverpool.'”
