Liverpool have been given encouragement in their pursuit of Marco Reus after the Borussia Dortmund forward’s agent claimed that “major European teams” want the German.

The 25-year-old is reported to have turned down a new contract with Dortmund amid interest from Premier League duo Liverpool and Manchester United this summer.

The Germany international, who missed his country’s triumphant campaign due to injury, scored 21 goals in 41 games for club and country last season.

And Reus’s agent Dirk Hebel fuelled speculation that the Dortmund man could leave Jurgen Klopp’s side after revealing interest from a number of European sides.

“Marco would make any big European team stronger,” Hebel was quoted as saying by Bild.

“That’s why it’s completely normal that a number of these major European teams are interested in signing him.

“But his main priority for now is to get back to top fitness and return to the pitch. Everything else is not important at this stage.”
