Liverpool transfers: Rodgers delivers update on Borini’s future
Liverpool transfers: Brendan Rodgers reveals that Fabio Borini is considering his future after bid from Sunderland
Brendan Rodgers insisted that Fabio Borini remains “a Liverpool player” despite Sunderland’s interest in signing the forward.
The Italian striker spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light and the Black Cats have recently tabled a £14m bid to sign the 23-year-old on a permanent deal.
However, it is thought that the forward is keen to stay at Anfield and fight for a place in Rodgers’ first-team.
And the Liverpool boss admitted that the striker’s future beyond the summer remains up in the air.
“[With] regards to his future, we will see,” said Rodgers. “He’s still a Liverpool player.
“We’ve obviously had a substantial bid from another Premier League club but at this moment in time it’s something he’s thinking about with his representatives. In the meantime, he’s training hard to get fit for Liverpool.”
Rodgers also played down concerns about the striker’s fitness after he sustained a shoulder injury during Liverpool’s 1-0 friendly defeat by Roma on Wednesday.
“It’s probably not as bad as first thought,” Rodgers added. “He’s had problems in the past with his shoulders but he has only bruised it.
“He will miss a few days and won’t train now for the remainder of our stay in Boston but it will only be a matter of days before he’s back training and playing again.”
