Louis van Gaal will sort out Man United’s No10s, says Lee Sharpe
Former Manchester United midfielder Lee Sharpe feels the Red Devils have too many number tens
Lee Sharp believes Louis van Gaal will wield the axe when the Manchester United manager addresses the number of attacking midfielders in his squad.
The 62-year-old has the likes of Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata, Shinji Kagawa, Tom Cleverley and Adnan Januzaj who can all play in the number ten role.
He won’t suffer fools, he’ll bring in new ideas, be a disciplinarian, he’ll have strong views and won’t be easily swayed from those
Former United manager David Moyes struggled to come up with a system which accommodated the plethora of playmakers in his underperforming squad.
However, ex-United midfielder Sharpe expects Van Gaal to be more ruthless and select the attacking midfielder that he deems valuable to the club.
“They have a few too many number 10s – (Juan) Mata, (Wayne) Rooney, (Shinji) Kagawa – and (Adnan) Januzaj can also play there. But he’ll have a look and sort it out,” Sharpe told Sky Sports News.
“He won’t suffer fools, he’ll bring in new ideas, be a disciplinarian, he’ll have strong views and won’t be easily swayed from those.”
Sharpe added that United will benefit from the lack of European football at Old Trafford this season.
“Being out of Europe and not having hangovers when you can struggle the weekend after having European away games – they certainly don’t have that problem.
“So they can keep themselves fit and be properly rested. That’ll be an advantage not having those midweek games.”
