Man United transfers: Arsene Wenger refuses to guarantee that Thomas Vermaelen will stay at Arsenal this summer
Arsene Wenger admits he cannot guarantee that Thomas Vermaelen will stay at Arsenal this summer amid reported interest from Manchester United.
The Belgium defender’s future has been a constant source of speculation this summer after he was limited to just seven Premier League starts for the Gunners last season.
Should he go, I will bring another centre-back in for sure
United are on the lookout for defensive reinforcements following the exit of veteran duo Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand this summer.
And asked if Vermaelen would definitely be staying at Arsenal this summer, Wenger said: “I cannot guarantee that [he will stay at the club].
“But should he go, I will bring another centre-back in for sure.”
Speaking earlier this month, Vermaelen said: “I really do not know where I will play, Arsenal or elsewhere next season.”
Vermaelen, who joined Arsenal from Ajax back in 2009, has one year remaining on his contract with the north London club.
