Man United transfers: Arturo Vidal won’t leave, says Juventus chief

Man United transfers: Juventus general director Giuseppe Marotta is adamant that Arturo Vidal won't leave this summer

Arturo Vidal won’t be leaving Juventus despite reports of a £42.5m switch to Manchester United, according to Giuseppe Marotta.

The Red Devils are thought to be closing in on a deal for the Chile international, fighting off competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool.

I can confirm Vidal is happy to be with us and there’s no reason for alarm

However, Vidal moved to end the rumours surrounding his future on Thursday, ruling out a move to the 20-time English champions this summer.

And Juventus general director Marotta pointed out that Vidal signed a new deal last year and tipped the midfielder to remain in Turin.

“It’s very simple. Vidal extended his contract with us last season, as there was a mutual desire to continue this rapport,” Marotta is quoted as saying.

“There is no reason for him to leave. Yesterday he gave an interview in a rushed and embarrassed manner, as he was getting his luggage and so he was misinterpreted.

“I can confirm Vidal is happy to be with us and there’s no reason for alarm. He had problems with the knee injury and rushing the recovery for the World Cup, so it will take a while to find his fitness.

“Nobody can doubt the quality of the player, nor how strong his bond is with Juventus.”
