Atlético Madrid are in talks to sign Javier Hernández from Manchester United, Diego Simeone has confirmed.

The Mexico forward has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer after he was limited to just six Premier League starts under David Moyes last season.

And Atlético boss Simeone says that the La Liga club are keen on prising the 26-year-old away from the Premier League club this summer.

“The technical department are handling it,” said Simeone when asked about the club’s interest in the striker.

“Like any other player who we are interested in, Hernández has a chance of arriving before the transfer window closes.”

Speaking last week, United boss Louis van Gaal gave little away about the striker’s future.

“I have to see if he performs how I want, and now, I can only see what he has shown under the guidance of another trainer and coach,” said Van Gaal.

“He will arrive, I think this evening, and then I will meet him, we will train, and after that, he will perform in a match and only after that, I can say anything about it.”
