Bebe has joined Benfica in a deal worth up to €3m (£2.4m), ending his Manchester United nightmare.

The 24-year-old, who was one of the biggest flops of Sir Alex Ferguson’s decorated reign, has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Europa League runners-up.

A Benfica statement read: “”Bebe has signed an agreement with SL Benfica for four years.”

United confirmed the sale via Twitter, adding: “Bebe has joined Benfica in a deal worth up to €3million. #mufc has the right to 50% of any sell-on fee.”

Bebe struggled to impress for the Red Devils since moving to Old Trafford from Portuguese minnows Vitória de Guimarães in 2010.

Bebe, who has six Portugal Under-21 caps, has been sent on loan to Besiktas, Rio Ave and Paços de Ferreira in recent seasons.
