Juventus are confident that Arturo Vidal will stay in Turin beyond the summer despite interest from Manchester United, says Giuseppe Marotta.

The Red Devils were reported to be close to sealing a deal for the Chile international, fighting off competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool.

However, Vidal moved to end the rumours surrounding his future last Thursday, ruling out a move to the 20-time English champions this summer.

And Juventus general director Marotta is adamant that the 25-year-old Chilean will see out the long-term contract which the midfielder signed last year.

“We recently renewed his contract because we knew that we could count on an important element,” Marotta told Sky Italia.

“He has not taken any different position to what he thought before.

“Transfer gossip is normal on one of the best players in circulation. We have never activated a plan to sell the player.

“In football you can never say, but if the player wants to stay we will be happy to keep him.”
