Louis van Gaal says he will not make a decision about Javier Hernandez’s Manchester United future until after he has assessed the striker in pre-season.

The Mexico forward has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer after he was limited to just six Premier League starts under David Moyes last season.

He will perform in a match and only after that, I can say anything about it

The 26-year-old is due to join up with the Red Devils squad on tour in the United States and Van Gaal says he will hold off making a decision until he has worked with the forward.

“I have to see if he performs how I want, and now, I can only see what he has shown under the guidance of another trainer and coach,” said Van Gaal.

“He will arrive, I think this evening, and then I will meet him, we will train, and after that, he will perform in a match and only after that, I can say anything about it.”
