Man United transfers: Louis van Gaal says he won't buy players for the sake of it in the summer window
Louis van Gaal insists he won’t buy for the sake of it in the summer transfer window.
The Manchester United manager has snapped up Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera and England international Luke Shaw since being appointed in May.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal in recent weeks, as well as Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels.
However, Van Gaal, who has penned a three-year deal with the 20-time English champions, is relaxed about potential summer signings.
“I don’t buy players for the sake of it. I buy players to improve my selection,” Van Gaal told Sky Sports News.
“First, I must see what I need in all the positions from the system we shall play and, at this moment, I don’t know for sure.”
Van Gaal lifted the lid on his decision-making process when United first approached the Dutchman to become their new manager.
“It was not an instant ‘yes’ because I had other offers also. So I had to think about it,” Van Gaal added.
“But I chose ‘yes’ because of the big challenge. I have been at Ajax – the biggest club in the Netherlands – I went to Barcelona – the biggest club in Spain – and then I go to Bayern Munich, also the number one in Germany.
“So when Manchester United came I thought I had to say ‘yes’.”
