Man United transfers: ‘Louis van Gaal would love to sign Arjen Robben’

Rene Meulensteen believes Louis van Gaal would love to bring Arjen Robben to Manchester United this summer.

The head coach was named as the new Red Devils manager in May, penning a three-year deal with the 13-time Premier League champions.

Robben has been a vital part of Van Gaal’s current Holland side and is expected to line up against Argentina for a place in the World Cup final on Wednesday night.

The Bayern Munich forward has already scored three goals and made one assist at the World Cup, making him a contender for player of the tournament.

Whilst Meulensteen is sure Van Gaal would like to sign Robben, the former United assistant manager doubts the winger would be willing to leave Bayern.

“I’m sure Van Gaal would love to take Arjen Robben to Manchester United,” Meulensteen told talkSPORT. “That’s not a surprise.

“When I was at Manchester United, we looked at that possibility for a few years, but then he signed for Bayern Munich. He’s been happy ever since and had a lot of success there.”
