Man United transfers: Red Devils suffer James Rodríguez setback
Man United transfers: James Rodríguez says that joining Real Madrid is the "dream of his life"
James Rodríguez has dealt Manchester United a blow by admitting that Real Madrid would be his first choice should he leave Monaco this summer.
The 22-year-old Colombia international emerged as one of the stars of the World Cup after his impressive displays helped his country reach the quarter-finals of the tournament in Brazil.
Playing for Real Madrid is the dream of my life
The Monaco midfielder had been linked with a big-money move to Real Madrid in recent days, with Manchester United also reported to be considering a £65m bid for the World Cup sensation.
However, Rodríguez has indicated that he would much prefer a move to the Bernabeu than Old Trafford in his latest comments about his future.
“I would go to Madrid with my eyes closed,” Rodríguez told Marca. “I respect other teams, but it is Real Madrid.
“Playing for Real Madrid is the dream of my life.”
Speaking earlier this month, Rodríguez revealed that he would favour a move to Spain ahead of England.
“I’ve said in the past that I’d like to play in Spain one day because it is a league that is good technically, and where you get a lot of touches on the ball, which is my style,” said Rodríguez.
“The Premier League is maybe a bit physical at this stage.
“But I am a Monaco player and I’m not thinking about anything like that at the moment.”
