Paul Pogba showed “arrogance” in his decision to leave Manchester United for Juventus, according to Rio Ferdinand.

The France international has become one of the most-coveted midfielders in Europe after impressing for the defending Serie A champions since joining from United back in 2012.

You have to have that arrogance about you as a young player coming through at United

Rio Ferdinand

And Ferdinand feels that the 21-year-old had to show a certain degree of arrogance in his bold choice to leave Old Trafford for the Italian side.

“He made the big bold move to leave United, the best club in the world in my eyes, at only 19 because he wanted opportunities,” Ferdinand wrote in a column for BBC Sport.

“He backed himself to do it, which is a big thing to do for a kid of his age, and he has not looked back since.

“You have to have that arrogance about you as a young player coming through at United, otherwise you sink. You won’t make it.”

Pogba scored seven goals and made seven assists in 36 Serie A appearances for Juve last season.
