Louis van Gaal began his reign as Manchester United manager in style by watching his side thrash LA Galaxy 7-0 at the Rose Bowl in front of a crowd of 86,432.
Wayne Rooney scored twice, with winger Ashley Young and debutant defender Reece James also netting two goals each after striker Danny Welbeck opened the scoring.
Van Gaal opted to make United’s longest-serving player, Darren Fletcher, captain for the pre-season friendly as Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw were handed their debuts for the club.
United next face Roma, Inter Milan and Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup on 26 July, 29 July and 2 August as they conclude their summer tour.
