Harry Redknapp is hopeful that Queens Park Rangers can wrap up a deal to sign Rio Ferdinand in the coming days after revealing that the veteran centre-half is keen on a move to Loftus Road.

The 35-year-old is currently a free agent after being released by Manchester United earlier this summer and has been touted as a target for Premier League new-boys QPR.

Ferdinand was in Brazil during the World Cup working as a pundit for BBC Sport and Redknapp confirmed that he is due to meet the defender upon his return to England.

“He arrives back today so I am going to meet him and hopefully we can get it sorted,” Redknapp told Sky Sports News.

“He has not been difficult to deal with. He wants to play and he is not expensive. He wants to come and play at QPR now so hopefully we can get it done.”

Ferdinand was restricted to just 12 Premier League starts for Manchester United last season.
