Raheem Sterling says Liverpool will take the coming season “step by step” as the Reds look to build on their second-place finish.

The 19-year-old forward played a key role in Liverpool’s Premier League title challenge last term, scoring nine goals and making five assists in 33 top-flight appearances.

This season we will just go in the same as we did last year and take it step by step, week in week out

Brendan Rodgers’s side fell just short in their title bid as a loss to Chelsea and a 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace allowed Manchester City to win the Premier League crown in May.

But Sterling is backing the Reds to go out with a positive attitude and fulfill their potential next season.

“Last season we did really well as a team. This season we will just go in the same as we did last year and take it step by step, week in week out,” Sterling said.

“Hopefully we can do well as a team and a collective. We will be going out there on a positive note and hopefully we can do what we know we can do.”
