‘Robin van Persie will be the new Man United captain’
Bryan Robson is convinced that Robin van Persie will be named as Manchester United's next captain
Bryan Robson says he would be “really surprised” if Louis van Gaal doesn’t name Robin van Persie as Manchester United’s new captain.
The Red Devils are currently on the lookout for a new skipper following Nemanja Vidic’s departure at the end of last season and Netherlands captain Van Persie has been touted as a candidate to take the armband.
I would be really surprised if he didn’t give Robin it
And former United man Robson feels that Robson is likely to pick the 30-year-old striker to be the club’s next captain.
“Robin was his captain of Holland, so that is an obvious one,” Robson is quoted as saying by Goal.
“I would be really surprised if he didn’t give Robin it.”
Robson also backed Van Gaal to reverse United’s fortunes this season following their seventh-place finish in the Premier League last term.
“The fans and the club were disappointed last year, but nobody hurts more than players,” he added.
“I know these players. They have won the title, the Champions League, and a lot of them were really disappointed about what happened so the lads that are still at the club will want to bounce back, they will want to prove to people that they are top players and they can win things.”
