Ronald Koeman: Dušan Tadić signing important for Southampton
Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is thrilled to sign FC Twente playmaker Dušan Tadić
Ronald Koeman has hailed Dušan Tadić as an “important signing” after the Serbian completed his move to Southampton on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old playmaker signed a four-year move after sealing a move to St Mary’s from FC Twente for an undisclosed fee.
I know the manager well because he is one of the biggest Dutch legends in football – everyone knows him
The Serbian finished as Eredivisie’s top-assist maker last season after creating 14 goals for team-mates, whilst he was the Dutch League’s fourth-highest goal-scorer with 16 strikes.
And Koeman, who was named as Mauricio Pochettino’s successor last month, is thrilled that the Saints have moved quickly to recruit after selling Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw.
“It was very important to get this signing done – not only for me, but for the rest of the squad and for our fans. It’s fantastic news,” Koeman told Southampton’s website.
“We’ve lost some good players but we want to continue the ambition and philosophy of the club, so it’s a great signal to have brought in our first player.
“He’s a great player. I know him very well from Holland, where he had a great season last year.
“We now look forward to bringing in more players because we want to continue and maybe even better what Southampton did last season.”
Tadic, who has 25 caps for Serbia, added: “The manager obviously knows me from the Dutch league so, when he called me and told me his plan, it was an easy decision to make.
