A new challenge

Arturo Vidal has just completed his third season with Juventus and the Old Lady have secured three successive Serie A crowns during the Chilean’s spell in Turin. Last season, Juventus finished 17 points clear of second-placed Roma and amassed an impressive 102 points. With such dominance over Italian football at present, there seems to be little challenge on offer for Vidal. A move to Old Trafford would present the Chilean with many things and a challenge is certainly one of them. After last season’s disappointing seventh-place finish, Louis Van Gaal and Manchester United are facing a massive season. Vidal has done everything he probably will at Juventus but a move to Old Trafford could see Premier League titles and more.

Vidal will still be a key player

Vidal has spent the last three years at Juventus, establishing himself as one of the main men alongside the likes of Andrea Pirlo and Gianluigi Buffon and is well liked in Turin. However, with the sort of money being talked about in regards to his sale, there is no reason to suggest he won’t still be one of the main men in Manchester. Commanding a potential transfer fee in the region of £50m, Vidal will be one of the first names on the team sheet if the move does happen. Anyone who watched the central midfielder for Chile at the World Cup could see his quality; he gets the ball and dictates the play from the centre of the park. If he is allowed to do so in the Premier League he really would be one of United’s best players and maybe even one of the best players in the Premier League.

Partnership with Herrera

Right now, United aren’t blessed with large amounts of central midfield talent. Michael Carrick had a really poor season last year, Marouane Fellaini looks surplus to requirements and Tom Cleverely has rarely impressed. It is easy to see then why it is such an area of concern for Van Gaal. His first step to resolve this was the addition of Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao. Watching the Basque outfit in recent years it is clear the 24-year-old has bags of quality, with him looking a great all-round midfielder. If Vidal joins the fold, United will have a central midfield partnership that oozes quality. Both players are equally adept going forward with a good range of passing but both don’t shun their defensive duty. There is versatility in the partnership as they take turns attacking and defending. The two together would be one of the best central midfield partnerships in the league if both can recreate their form from abroad. For Vidal, a move to Old Trafford really would allow him to play alongside a quality player and form a formidable partnership.
