Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their bid to sign Radamel Falcao after the Monaco striker appeared to drop a big hint that he is set to join Real Madrid.

The Colombia international has been heavily linked with a loan move to the Gunners in recent days after Olivier Giroud was ruled out for three to four months following surgery on a broken tibia.

Falcao, who has been regularly linked with Madrid since moving to Ligue 1 side Monaco last summer, reportedly tweeted: “Dream come true #HalaMadrid”, before deleting the post.

On Friday, Arsenal manager Wenger was remaining tight-lipped on reports suggesting that the Gunners were close to signing the South American in a £20m deal from Monaco.

“It is very difficult to go into all that. Once again, all the negotiations have to be as secret as possible,” Wenger said.

“If we sign somebody, if we sign Falcao, you will of course be informed.”
