Arsene Wenger insists that Arsenal will not be letting Joel Campbell leave the club on loan this summer.

The Gunners boss confirmed that the Costa Rica international has attracted plenty of interest from clubs looking to bolster their attacking options in recent weeks.

He’s definitely a target and a player who is wanted by many clubs

However, Wenger says that the north London side have no intention of letting the 22-year-old leave Emirates Stadium before Monday’s transfer deadline.

“We’ve had lots of enquiries and turned them down. There have been plenty of clubs interested, but I don’t know how many,” said Wenger.

“Once I say to my assistant he won’t go out on loan, even if people ask about him, my assistant doesn’t even tell me. When I say no, it’s no.

“He’s definitely a target and a player who is wanted by many clubs.”

Campbell, who spent last season on loan to Olympiakos, has made substitute appearances in the Community Shield and against Everton so far this term.
