Demba Ba has revealed that he came within a whisker of joining Arsenal this summer, before his transfer from Chelsea to Besiktas.

The Senegal striker came close to moving to the north London club last year but a deal failed to materialise following Arsenal’s signing of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid.

How close did I come to joining Arsenal? As close as you and me here

Ba, 29, was again linked with the Gunners this summer prior to his £8m move from Stamford Bridge to the Turkish club.

And the former Newcastle United forward has revealed that he was very close to sealing a move to Emirates Stadium.

“I’m happy at Besiktas,” said Ba. “How close did I come to joining Arsenal? As close as you and me here, but it’s past. I just look forwards.

“Everybody knew that I wanted to come here [to Arsenal]. I could have maybe waited longer in this transfer window but I wanted to go and play for Besiktas because it’s a great club.”
