Tony Pulis has left Crystal Palace a mere two days before the Eagles face Arsenal at The Emirates.

The Welshman stood down as manager on Thursday night, and assistant manager Keith Millen will take temporary charge of the east London side for Saturday’s trip to The Emirates.

Here is the best of the Twitter reaction from the professionals, past and present, to news of Pulis’s Palace exit.

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton (@Joey7Barton) describes Pulis’s departure as a massive blow: “Wow is it true Pulis has left Palace? That’s a massive blow 2 days from the start of the season. #cpfc”

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen (@themichaelowen) reckons the Eagles could be in trouble now: “Pulis leaves Palace. The madness has started and a ball hasn’t been kicked yet! I may change my bottom three prediction.”

Ex-Stoke defender Danny Higginbotham (@Higginbotham05) wonders what led to Pulis walking out: “Will be interesting to see whether it’s the case or not of another owner or chairman thinking they know more about football than the manager”

Jan Aage Fjortoft (@JanAageFjortoft) has an interesting approach to the news: “Palace letting Pulis go = Palace board decide to get relegated… Re: Pulis Apple let Jobs go too!”

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) feels Palace should have moved mountains to keep Pulis: “Pulis left Palace madness! Give him what he wants he’s made the club millions by keeping them up… Sure with him would have stayed up again… You don’t let a manager run riot in the transfer market you work together for the club, but after the job he has done back him don’t lose him”

Former Palace striker Clinton Morrison (@morrisonclinton) can’t believe the news: “Hope the news that Tony Pulis has left is a joke he has done a great job hopefully something can get sorted out… If anyone can sort the problem out it’s the chairman he is a good man and done lots for the club but loosing Pulis is a big blow… Pulis turned a team everyone said would get relegated into a mid table team he done a brilliant job hard man to replace.”

Finally, ex-West Ham striker Dean Ashton (@Dean36ashton10) is gutted for Eagles supporters: “Gotta feel for Palace fans!!! Excitement been totally deflated!! #footballloopy”
