The 29-year-old sealed a £3m move to his first club after winning the FA Cup and League Cup following his move to the Merseyside outfit in 2006.

And here is the best of the Twitter reaction from Agger’s former team-mates and the Liverpool fraternity.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) has his say on Agger:[email protected] Sad to see Agger go played a CL final together, very good player for Lfc and stayed when he had big offers from elsewhere.”

Reds captain Steven Gerrard (@stevengerrard) on Instagram: “I would like to wish my mate Dan Agger all the best with his move back home . Been a top player for the reds YNWA”

Reds cult hero Luis Garcia (@LuchoGarcia14) praises Agger as a player and a person: “@DanielAgger leaving Liverpool, Great defender, Fantastic teammate, Humble person. All the best mate”

Newcastle defender Robbie Elliott (@robbieelliott3) can’t believe the transfer fee: “3 million for Agger. I’d snap there hands off! Don’t get that quality for the price @pauldalglish thoughts?”

And Paul Dalglish (@pauldalglish) replies to his friend: “@robbieelliott3 I’m a huge Agger fan Robbie. I presume he’s on big wages which is probably the reason for the small fee. You well??”

Former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor (@NeilMellor33) wishes the Dane all the best: “All the best to @DanielAgger on his move away from Liverpool to Brondby. A Great lad #YNWA”

Fellow Dane and Liverpool fan Caroline Wozniacki (@CaroWozniacki) wonders why Brendan Rodgers didn’t want to use Agger: “Woke up to the news @DanielAgger is leaving Liverpool. Don’t understand Rogers didn’t want to use him. Class player. He will be missed #ynwa”

Finally, Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva (@LucasLeiva87) enjoyed playing alongside Agger: “It was a pleasure to play with you so many years my friend @DanielAgger. Good luck in your new challenge.”
