England v India: Alastair Cook bemoans spin issues after second ODI loss

England v India: Alastair Cook bemoans his side's spin issues after a heavy ODI defeat at Trent Bridge

By Sam Rogers

Alastair Cook pinpointed his side’s troubles against slow bowling as the cause of their problems after sliding to a six-wicket defeat by India at Trent Bridge.

Cook, who made a solid 40 before being stumped down the leg-side as his side slipped from their solid foundation of 80-0 to be bowled out for 227, which India chased down with more than five overs to spare.

We’ll let the dust settle and we’ll have a look to see what team we play next week

Alastair Cook

“It’s something we’re not doing very well at the moment but we’ve got to keep working at it. The hardest thing is finding the quality spinners.” said Cook.

“We didn’t play very well. We got off to another good start but, from 80-0, you expect to get more than 230.

“We’ll let the dust settle and we’ll have a look to see what team we play next week.”

One positive for England was the return of Middlesex’s Steven Finn to the international set-up after a long period away from the side, to bowl with rhythm and pace to take 1-50 from eight overs.

With Finn widely regarded as one of England’s premier fast bowlers, Cook was pleased to see his progress and is confident it will lead to a return to form for Finn.

“It was great to see him back playing in an England shirt from where he’s come from,” he added.

“Hopefully he can keep improving, get that confidence back. He’s an outstanding bowler and the more he plays he’ll get better and better.”
