Diego Costa continued his goal-scoring form as the Chelsea striker scored either side of half-time to help the Blues seal a thrilling 6-3 win at Everton.

Costa and Branislav Ivanovic put the visitors in front inside three minutes before Seamus Coleman’s own goal restored Chelsea’s two-goal cushion following Kevin Mirallas’s header.

The Toffees hit back through Steven Naismith but Nemanja Matic made it 4-2; Everton signing Samuel Eto’o reduced the deficit again before Costa and Ramires sealed three points.

Here is the best of the Twitter reaction from the professionals, past and present, in chronological order to a thrilling Goodison Park encounter.

Even former Everton striker Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) fell for Jose Mourinho’s mind games: “Diego Costa, who is out injured for a few weeks, has given Chelsea the lead in the first minute.”

Manchester United legend Paul McGrath
(@Paulmcgrath5) can’t see how it can get any better for the visitors:
“Blow for full-time ref! Chelsea wow!”

Former Liverpool midfielder David Thompson (@77thomo) can’t believe Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard escaped unpunished for handling outside the area: “Howard should have been off then? Outside the box is an understatement”

One Premier League legend Robbie Fowler (@Robbie9Fowler) discusses a potential English top-flight star: “Costa must be a dream for chelsea midfield… Runs + movement, keeping the defenders deep… Quality.”

Former Manchester City goalkeeper David James (@jamosfoundation ) got caught in a goal shower: “I didn’t realise it was monsoon season on Merseyside, it’s raining goals! 3-5 Chelsea”

Everton legend Tim Cahill (@Tim_Cahill) is watching the match at Goodison Park behind proverbial closed fingers: “Can’t watch anymore, its killing me. Buzzing my man @setoo9 scored @Everton #COYB”

USA legend Alexi Lalas (@AlexiLalas ) has temporarily confused Soccer for American Football: “Final 21-42. Fun football game. #EVEvsCHE”

Finally, Chelsea debutant Filipe Luís (@filipeluis) is pleased to make his Blues bow: “It was a tough game but we got a great victory. Really happy with my debut with @chelseafc! #CFC”
