Fraser Forster (£5m) Southampton have only collected a point from their opening two Premier League games, conceding two goals. But the Saints have a chance to rack up some points in the coming weeks with home matches against Newcastle, QPR and Sunderland, and away trips to West Ham, Swansea and Tottenham in their next six. Forster looks a good shout at £5m.

Asmir Begovic (£5m) Asmir Begovic commands the same fee as England international Forster. Stoke City, like Southampton, have a relatively promising run of fixtures coming up on the horizon following a tricky clash against Manchester City this weekend. Begovic has been selected by 9% of Fantasy Football players, so if you’re going for the popular choice, the Bosnian is your man.

Michael Dawson (£4.8m) The Hull City signing is a favourite of this column, although he struggled to collect points amid Tottenham Hotspur’s kamikaze defending last season. Michael Dawson will be an integral part of Steve Bruce’s back three going forward, whilst also providing a threat from set-pieces. The former Spurs captain is worth a punt at £4.8m.

Joel Ward (£5m) It has been a tough start to the Premier League season for everyone concerned with Crystal Palace. However, Neil Warnock’s appointment as Tony Pulis’s successor should see some sort of normality return to the Eagles. Palace face newly-promoted Leicester City and Burnley in two of their next four fixtures, whilst this weekend’s opponents Newcastle United are yet to score this season.

Angel di Maria (£9.5m) Don’t expect miracles from Angel di Maria, warned Louis van Gaal at the British record signing’s unveiling on Thursday. Well, we do. Di Maria is a world-class talent and is a good price at £9.5m. Putting the Argentina international’s price into context, Yaya Toure costs £11m and Eden Hazard commands a £10m fee. Best to buy Di Maria before his price creeps up.

James Ward-Prowse (£5m) James Ward-Prowse is set to thrive in the absence of Adam Lallana this season. The England Under-21 international impressed against Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion. Ward-Prowse appears to have been assigned set-piece duty, too, providing another means of racking up Fantasy Football points. He could prove a bargain buy at £5m.

Stevan Jovetic (£8.1m) With Edin Dzeko a doubt and Manuel Pellegrini continuing to ease Sergio Aguero back into regular Premier League action, Stevan Jovetic could be the main man for the Citizens in coming weeks. The Montenegro international seized his chance to impress on Monday night as the former Fiorentina midfielder scored a brilliant brace against Liverpool. Jovetic should start against Stoke and looks great value at an economical £8.1m.

Samuel Eto’o (£6m) Samuel Eto’o is a main very much motivated by revenge, just look at how he twisted the knife into Real Madrid’s back after los Blancos discarded the striker early in his career. Eto’o will be eager to get the chance to prove to Jose Mourinho that he isn’t an old man. The Cameroon international may be something of a spent force, but the 33-year-old still managed a hat-trick against Manchester United last season. Expect Roberto Martinez to go with Steven Naismith but Eto’o could cause damage from the bench.

Captain’s pick

Jovetic could be a good shout to make captain this week considering his form and City’s opponents at The Etihad. Otherwise, Wayne Rooney is good option if United turn up at Burnley. Diego Costa is a major doubt for Chelsea, so it isn’t worth the gamble keeping the Spaniard as your captain.
