Harry Redknapp surprised by Loic Remy’s Chelsea move
Harry Redknapp admits he did not expect Chelsea to swoop for Loïc Remy as the striker nears a transfer
Harry Redknapp admits he did not expect Chelsea to swoop for Loic Remy after the Blues triggered the Queens Park Rangers striker’s release clause.
The France international was set to feature for the Hoops against Sunderland on Saturday but was left out of the squad at short notice after Jose Mourinho’s side came in for the 27-year-old.
I was hoping he would be here because he is important to us
Redknapp, who watched his side notch up their first league win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Sunderland on Saturday, revealed that the £8.5m bid took him by surprise.
“I didn’t see it coming, maybe I’m naïve,” said Redknapp. “I was hoping he would be here because he is important to us.
“He didn’t refuse to play. We picked the team and he was in it but I had to change it at the last minute.
“To be fair to him his head would not be right and I needed 11 whose heads would be right.”
Remy was due to sign for Liverpool in July but the move collapsed amid reports that the forward failed a medical.
