Spurs have made a brilliant start under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, sealing a 4-0 win against Queens Park Rangers last weekend after a 1-0 victory at West Ham United on the opening day of the season.
Tottenham, who qualified for the Europa League group stage courtesy of a 5-1 aggregate win against Limassol on Thursday, are flying high at the top of the Premier League after back-to-back wins.
I’m especially excited to watch him [Balotelli] play back in the Premier League this season, and I’ll be making sure to try and get his shirt at the end of the game!
But new England call-up Rose feels Brendan Rodgers’s side will provide a stern examination of Tottenham’s potential for the season.
“That’s when we’ll see how good we really are and how good we can be, because Liverpool are a top team on the back of a defeat by Manchester City, so they’ll be hoping to get three points here,” Rose said.
Spurs were soundly beaten 4-0 at Anfield last March after suffering a humiliating 5-0 loss to the Reds in this fixture last season, leading to Andre Villas-Boas being sacked.
But Rose, who has spent loan spells at Watford and Sunderland before breaking through at Spurs, is adamant that the north London side won’t be motivated by potential revenge.
“I don’t really go into games thinking of previous results. We want to win every single game. Liverpool are one of the top teams in the league and we want to measure ourselves against them,” Rose continued.
The 24-year-old also welcomed Mario Balotelli’s return to the Premier League, adding that he would like to get his hands on the £16m signing’s shirt at the end of the game on Sunday, presumably after a Spurs win.
“I’m especially excited to watch him play back in the Premier League this season, and I’ll be making sure to try and get his shirt at the end of the game!” added Rose.
