Mauricio Pochettino has warned Tottenham Hotspur to learn from Manchester United’s shock League Cup exit.

Spurs face AEL Limassol in the second leg of their Europa League play-off tie at White Hart Lane, holding a 2-1 lead from the Cyprus leg.

We need a very good performance to beat Limassol and because we need to stay in the next round

Louis van Gaal’s weakened side suffered a shock 4-0 loss to MK Dons in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night despite containing a number of first-team stars.

And Spurs manager Pochettino insisted that the north London club cannot afford to underestimate their Europa League opponents despite their aggregate lead.

“I believe that it will be a tough game because all games are difficult,” Pochettino is quoted as saying by ESPN.

“On Tuesday it was difficult for Manchester United and you need to be focused on your objective.

“I watched the game in Milton Keynes live. I was there. It was difficult but it’s a good example to be ready. Now we need a very good performance to beat Limassol and because we need to stay in the next round.

“We got a good result in Larnaca but we need to ready and focused on the game.”
