Mario Balotelli has heaped praise on Steven Gerrard after the veteran midfielder became the first Liverpool player to score in 16 successive seasons.

The Liverpool captain netted a second-half penalty to help the Reds secure a 3-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday as Balotelli made his first appearance for his new club.

Goals from Raheem Sterling and a superb solo effort from Alberto Moreno wrapped up an impressive victory for Brendan Rodgers’ men at White Hart Lane.
