Top player! Steven Gerrard hails Daniel Agger after Liverpool exit
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard hails Daniel Agger as a "top player" after the Dane sealed a return to Brondby
Steven Gerrard has hailed Daniel Agger as a “top player” for Liverpool after the Dane sealed a return to Brondby on Saturday.
The 29-year-old Denmark international announced that he had sealed a return to his boyhood club after moving to Liverpool from Brondby in a £5m deal in January 2006.
And Gerrard, who won the FA Cup and League Cup with Agger during the defender’s eight-year career, lavished praise on the centre-half, who was linked with Barcelona this summer.
“I would like to wish my mate Dan Agger all the best with his move back home. Been a top player for the reds YNWA,” Gerrard posted on Instagram.
Agger revealed that he rejected a move to rival Premier League clubs after quitting Liverpool to join Brondby.
“Liverpool have been such a big part of my life and my family’s lives for so long, that leaving is extremely difficult,” Agger told Liverpool’s website.
“The opportunity arose for me to return home to Brondby and at this stage of my career it felt like the right decision for me.
“I wouldn’t leave here to go anywhere else and that has been proven by my actions in recent seasons – I have turned down many offers to move to other Premier League and European clubs.”
