Diego Lopez believes AC Milan loanee Fernando Torres will be more useful than Mario Balotelli.

The 30-year-old Spain international sealed a season-long loan move to the San Siro outfit in the summer transfer window, seizing the chance for a fresh start.

Torres scored a disappointing 20 goals in 120 Premier League appearances following a club-record £50m move to Stamford Bridge from Liverpool in 2011.

The Reds signed Balotelli in a £16m deal from Milan last month, paving the way for Torres to join the seven-time European champions.

And the striker’s compatriot Lopez, who swapped Real Madrid for Milan this summer, feels Torres will offer more to the Serie A side than Balotelli.

“We want to get Milan back to where they belong and for this Torres is going to be more useful than Balotelli,” Lopez said.

“He’s a big signing for Milan and he’s done great things in his career. His job is to score goals.

“He’s a big player — already tried and tested, renowned, quick and strong.”
