Adnan Januzaj is determined to earn a place in Manchester United’s starting line-up on merit this season.

The 19-year-old winger netted an impressive hat-trick for United’s under-21s in a 4-0 victory over Sunderland on Monday night at Old Trafford.

The Belgium international was also a second-half substitute for Louis van Gaal’s side in Sunday’s 4-0 Premier League victory over Queens Park Rangers.

And Januzaj is prepared to work hard to prove himself worthy of a starting spot in the Red Devils’ first team.

“I tried to do my best,” Januzaj told MUTV after Monday’s win. “Obviously, even if it’s Reserves level, I always have to show myself and improve.

“I got a hat-trick but I think I worked hard defensively as well and these are the kind of things I have to do now and at first-team level.

“Of course, I played a lot of games last season and I’m trying to impress the manager once again and get games again this year as well.”

Januzaj added that he feels no extra pressure to impress new United boss Van Gaal.

“I think I do it myself,” he said. “I don’t for it for any other people but for myself. I look after my [performance]. Even if I have to play Under-18s, I have to do it and try to improve every time I play.”
