The British number one is hoping to gain vital ranking points to seal his place in the ATP World Tour Finals at The O2 in November.

The world number 11, who was beaten in four sets by Novak Djokovic at the US Open last week, is looking forward to starting the Asian swing.

Murray will join the likes of David Ferrer and Richard Gasquet at the inaugural ATP 250 tournament, which takes place from 20-28 September.

“I am looking forward to competing at the Shenzhen Open, a new event on the ATP World Tour, and starting my first match of the Asian swing in China. I’m looking forward to a busy month in Asia and playing in front of the passionate fans out here,” Murray said.

Murray is still searching for his first title of an injury-plagued 2014 after reaching the semi-finals of the French Open before losing to eventual champion Nadal.

And on his place in the China Open, the 2013 Wimbledon champion added: “I’m excited to announce that I will play in the China Open.

“I have some great memories of playing tennis in China over the years, I love the country and there are plenty of passionate fans here who enjoy their tennis, so I’m looking forward to competing.”
