Arsenal don’t have a game plan against very best sides, blasts ex-Gunner
Former Arsenal star Stewart Robson says the Gunners need a defensive midfielder and a centre-half
Arsenal don’t have a game plan against the very best sides in the Premier League and Champions League, according to former Gunners star Stewart Robson.
Arsene Wenger’s side suffered an emphatic 2-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday night, continuing their four-game winless run.
The same mistakes are happening time and time again. Everybody told Arsene Wenger he needed another centre-half, he needed another holding midfielder
And former Arsenal midfielder Robson believes the north London side keep making the same mistakes, highlighting their lack of a defensive players in their squad.
“Against the average sides, Arsenal will win. Against the very best sides, Arsenal lose. That’s because they haven’t got a game plan, they are not good enough defensively, and it has been the same problem for five or six years now,” Robson told talkSPORT.
“Why are we surprised? It’s the same old thing that’s been happening for six or seven years. Whenever Arsenal play a good side, they are caught on the counter.
“The same mistakes are happening time and time again. Everybody told Arsene Wenger he needed another centre-half, he needed another holding midfielder. Your full backs away from home can’t be playing too high up the field and allow people to counter attack. You have to earn the right to play.
“Arsene Wenger either doesn’t see it, sees it and doesn’t know how to rectify it, or knows how to rectify it but the players aren’t taking any notice of him. Whichever one of the three it is of those, it is a major problem for Arsenal.”
