‘Arsenal need Mesut Ozil to be their new Dennis Bergkamp’
Chelsea legend Tony Cascarino says Arsenal record signing Mesut Özil needs to have big performances on a regular basis
Tony Cascarino says Arsenal need Mesut Ozil to be their new Dennis Bergkamp.
Ozil answered his critics with a starring performance in a 3-1 win against Aston Villa on Saturday, scoring his first goal of the season before teeing up Danny Welbeck.
He has got to be a player that is going to win games and score goals when you spend that type of money
The Germany international has been criticised after struggling to have a regular influence Arsenal games since his £42.5m move to The Emirates from Real Madrid in 2013.
And former Chelsea forward Cascarino believes Ozil should be having the same impact as Gunners legend Bergkamp on the current Arsenal side.
“I think he has being very poor, nowhere near a £42m player,” Cascarino told Sky Sports News.
“He took his goal brilliantly there.
“Ozil is a player that you want to see doing that on a regular basis, not on the fringe of games.
“He has got to be a player that is going to win games and score goals when you spend that type of money.
“He is a World Cup winner, was a key player at Real Madrid, you need him to be a Dennis Bergkamp.”
Ozil has scored six goals in 30 Premier League appearances following his move to The Emirates.
